3rd Towcester Brownies Visit

23rd March 2025

Towcester Foodbank hosted a visit from the 3rd Towcester Brownies on 20th March 2025.

The visit was the culmination of a lot of hard work by the Brownies who were working towards their Charity Badge and their Money Confidence Badge. They had already learnt about shopping on a budget, comparing prices and brands, weights and sizes on a trip to the local supermarket to buy their donations. At the Foodbank the Brownies weighed and recorded their donations before checking dates, ensuring nothing was damaged or opened and that the ingredients and allergy information were clearly legible. We talked about why our volunteers carry out all these checks, the importance of food safety and being mindful of different dietary needs or allergies. Finally the Brownies helped to put everything away and we looked at which items go into an emergency food parcel.

We also talked a lot about kindness, about why we always make people feel welcome with a smile and the importance of offering a hot drink and a biscuit. At the end of their visit the Brownies presented us with some lovely handmade Thank You cards for our volunteers. We were able to share these on our volunteers’ WhatsApp group – the best way to reach everyone as we have around 60 people who help to keep the Foodbank running.

We love hosting visits like this, there is so much learning opportunity but we also have great fun. Please get in touch if your group would be interested in supporting us and finding out more about our work. Email us on [email protected]
